The World's Best Socks? Confession: I am Australian. I bought one (1) pair of these socks on a late 2024 visit to Waiau/Franz Josef and foolishly departed your beautiful country before securing a backup pair, despite my partner's suspiciously covetous glances. Mercifully, hours of obsessive online sleuthing revealed identical socks' availability from the Tin Shed at a competitive price and with a fair international shipping fee. Even if my original, widely admired pair now somehow mysteriously disappear, my feet will retain access to luxurious comfort and style. These omni-gender, all-weather socks are warm (but not too warm), soft, keep my feet dry, and withstood several days' wear during a laundry-deficient leg of my Aotearoa Odyssey without exuding a hint of foot-smell. They are perfect for any occasion; I hereby attest that I wish to be buried in one pair, so that we may gently decompose together, and bequeath the other pair to my partner. The socks' pattern and colours, redolent of majestic glaciers, weathered limestone, and wild, unspoiled rivers, charm in their simplicity. Are they the World's Best Socks? Without doubt, yes. My one criticism - I wish the toe was emblazoned with 'Aotearoa' instead of 'New Zealand'. Otherwise, these woolly wonders embody sock perfection. Thank you to the Tin Shed, the NZ Sock Co, and the Merinos and Possums (vale) of Aotearoa.

Your cart will then pop up on the right side of the screen, where you can choose to proceed to checkout or continue shopping. You can access your cart at any time by clicking the cart icon in the top-right corner of the page to review or edit your items. For a detailed walkthrough with screenshots, see our guide: How to Place an Online Order.

How long does shipping take?

We aim to dispatch all orders received within 3 working days. If we anticipate a longer delay, we will notify you by email or phone.

New Zealand orders are typically delivered within 1–3 working days after dispatch. For rural areas, allow an extra 3 working days. New Zealand shipping is a flat rate of NZD $10.00 for all orders.

International shipping is available via two services - DHL Express: Delivery within 4–6 working days after dispatch and International Air Post: Delivery within 2–6 weeks after dispatch, depending on the destination. Shipping rates are based on the weight of the parcel and the country.

What is the return policy?

Returns are accepted under the following conditions for a refund, exchange or store credit. Items must be in the original condition - unworn, unwashed, with all tags attached, and free from odours or stains. Once your order has been delivered to you, you have 14 days (New Zealand) or 30 days (international orders) to send your return. Please click our policy for more detail on our conditions, as well as our returns from and address.

What payment methods are accepted?

The Tin Shed accepts all major credit cards, Shop Pay, Apple Pay, PayPal, and Afterpay.

If you are shipping within New Zealand, you can choose to pay for your order by direct bank deposit at checkout.

How can I help ensure I get the correct size when I order?

If we have included a size chart on our listing, please check this against your measurements.

When placing your order, you’ll see an Order Note section in your cart and at checkout. You are welcome to include your actual body measurements and preferred fit (snug, regular or loose) here, so we can check to help get your sizing right.

If your garment arrives and still doesn’t fit as expected, don’t worry. Our returns policy allows you to return the item for an exchange, store credit, or a refund.

How should I wash my products?

Generally for knitwear, homeware or accessories made from natural fibres it is recommended to hand wash or dry clean items. We recommend always following the care instructions on the label. If handwashing, soak your item for 10 mins in cold water with a wool or delicate detergent. Rinse thoroughly in cold water. Rinse again in cold water. Gently squeeze the water out, do not wring or twist. Dry flat in the shade. Do not tumble dry. Store your garment folded and do not hang it to prevent stretching.

Are your prices inclusive of NZ GST? What happens with GST for orders shipped within New Zealand or internationally?

Shipping within New Zealand: When browsing the website in New Zealand Dollars (NZD), all product prices include New Zealand’s 15% GST. If you enter a New Zealand shipping address at checkout, the price remains the same - orders shipped within New Zealand are inclusive of the 15% NZ GST.

Shipping to Australia: When browsing in Australian Dollars (AUD), the 15% NZ GST has been automatically removed and replaced with Australia’s 10% GST. If you enter an Australian shipping address at checkout, the price remains unchanged - orders shipped to Australia are exclusive of NZ GST and inclusive of the 10% Australian GST, applied in compliance with Australian tax regulations.

Shipping Internationally (excluding Australia): When browsing in any international currency other than AUD, the 15% NZ GST is removed from product prices. If you enter a shipping address outside New Zealand and Australia, the price remains the same at checkout. Orders shipped internationally (excluding Australia) are GST-free.
