From Stables to Storefront
The Tin Shed began its journey in 1985, nestled in the heart of rural South Canterbury, New Zealand.
Originally a 19th-century corrugated iron stable for working horses, later repurposed for grain storage, the shed was transformed into a small shop selling hand-knitted wool sweaters made by local women.
Founded by farm owners Brian and Olwyn Palmer, the store was built on a simple yet powerful vision: to champion New Zealand-made wool products while supporting local communities.
A New Era
In 1997, The Tin Shed welcomed a new chapter under the ownership of Lesley Limbe.
Embracing a new era of fibre innovation, Lesley expanded the range to include two groundbreaking products: ultra-light merino knits and merino-possum garments, both loved for their exceptional warmth and softness.
As demand grew, so did the reach. In 2003, The Tin Shed launched its online store, connecting with a growing community of loyal customers across New Zealand and around the world.
